Force of Habit

When I was still hanging on to my twenties by a thread, I dated a marine-biologist. He watched fishing shows for hours every weekend morning (and well into the afternoon sometimes). After he broke my heart (in the middle of a James Bond marathon - something I have yet to regain my taste for thanks to him...) I found myself watching fishing shows all by myself on the weekends after Pee-Wee's Playhouse was over, because I just couldn't remember what else to do.

I got over it, eventually. The boy AND the fishing shows.

This morning I woke up on the couch at 5:00 am with the TV still on. I'd fallen asleep trying to get through a particularly dismal SNL. Athletes are not funny, ya'll. Stop booking athletes. Except Peyton Manning. Book him a lot; he's the lone exception. But I've digressed. I woke up to a fishing show. As I reached for the remote to turn the TV off so I could roll over and go back to sleep, I realized that I couldn't stop looking at the screen. The volume was down to next to nothing and I know next to nothing about fish and/or fishing, so it wasn't the content of the show that had me mesmerized. The show appeared to be about two grizzly looking old dudes pulling ugly ass fish out of a murky lake. Nope. It wasn't that. It was the sky. The sky behind them was clear and blue and bright. I could not peel my eyes from it.

Just looking at a blue sky on TV was having an effect. Whoda thunk?

Tom? He doesn't watch fishing shows. He watches Ninja Warrior. One weekend a couple weekends ago he watched Ninja Warrior for ten hours straight. I shit thee not. I roll my eyes. I make fun of him. Sometimes I even get full on angry. But I have to wonder - if he went away for a weekend, would I watch it anyway? Probably not. It always appears to be rainy and gray on Mount Midoriyama.

This is very funny to me because my husband has recently discovered "Cops" and he watches it ALL THE TIME. That is, when he's not watching car auctions, which I can't handle at all. I admit that Cops has its appeal. So last night I said I wanted to watch a DVD I had taken out from the library and he said ok, but first see what time Cops is on, and I looked at the guide on the TV and no Cops was on, but there was a marathon of Ninja Warriors. And he said that didn't sound bad either.

Ok my hubby is a fan of those world's dumbest and Most shocking videos shows. I have to admit some of them are pretty good. I just lo9ve that they have commentators like Tanya Harding, Danny Bonaduce, Leif Garrett on them their comments crack me up..

I've seen those fishing shows and there is just so little action that I can't figure out the appeal. Perhaps it's really all about the peacefulness and serenity. :)

Ocassionally while surfing Paul will run across a fishing show. If I'm sitting there I'll wait a few seconds and then say somethink like....."you've go to be kidding." At that point, he usually keeps going. There nothing that he would sit and watch for hours at a time, thank god!

My husband would watch "overhaulin" or the dog whisperer all the time! I can take a little of either, but neither long term!

My husband doesn't watch much tv and I don't watch any. When he does, it's usually the history channel or something else just as boring. I guess I should be happy he's not a TV addict huh!?

So...have you heard of those lights you can get that are like the outside on a sunny day or something?? You should maybe look into em...

Glad I did not stay up to watch SNL. Do you remember the skit with Peyton Manning teaching the kids to break into cars -- total classic :D

Bang 'em up, shoot 'em up is what my hubby loves. I think I would prefer fishing shows!

Pee-Wee's Playhouse,lol. I so miss that show.

My hubs doesn't watch fishing-fishing, but he can watch the deadliest catch all night long.

I miss blue sky. I can't wait for winter to end (and yes, I know it's only the midway point).

My own hubby is a ESPN man. He can watch sports show forever...but waits almost nothing else. Men are strange.

My dad was an avid Bill Dance fan until his stroke, then he started watching the Spanish channel (even though he cannot understand a lick of spainish...he swears he knows every plot of every Mexican soap opera playing).

My vice is Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters. I live for Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I think I'm the one w/the obsession.

I found I do that with car shows when he's not here. I will be 15 min in and think "I don't have to watch this!! I 'm changing the dang channel!" In fairness, if The Mummy or The Mummy returns is on I HAVE to watch it! And if it is on back to back, I'll sit through it twice. I don't know why, they're not that good.

Mr. Fairway's BFF is a TV bigshot out in Cali. He started in the Midwest with a fishing show. I wonder whatever happened to your fisherman?

My hubs would watch those damn Harry Potter movies over, and over, and over. Well that and A Knights Tale with Heath Ledger. Blahhh. What can I say I love Ninja Warrior too. I sometimes even watch fishing shows. Bill Dance is the best. You should check out his bloopers on You tube for a good laugh. basically I am a reality TV junkie. It's like people watching from your couch. Can't beat that in my warped opinion. :o)

My hubby watches the weather constantly...he's even got my boy doing the same thing. Seriously, in my family, if you want to know the weather you ask my son or my husband, whoever you run into first.

I make fun of them all the time but when they're gone...sometimes I watch it too. Don't tell them though!

I don't watch much TV, but I think if there was a fishing show on the weekends up here, I'd probably watch it for at least a little while.

We dvr'd SNL and attempted to watch it early this am. It was painful. I told Hubs it reminded me of Magic Johnson's talk show.

I'm thankful my husband doesn't watch any sports shows on TV. I can't imagine being married to someone who was glued to the tv all weekend. The good news is that now you know you just need to find some shows taped in
Florida to help get you through the winter.

It's funny how just looking at something like the sky can bring back so many memories. :)

Fishing shows? No fun. Hunting shows? No fun.

Cops? Mildly fun but cant watch due to gratuitous shirtlessness. We watch LOST. Sports. And are about to give up on Brothers and Sisters unless it improves this year. :)

I'm laughing over here b/c I just got done watching SNL from Saturday and was saying how terrible Charles Barkley was that night. Terrible.
