My mother - and probably your mother and maybe you and almost definitely Carol Brady - always said: If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. As I have no desire to (further) disappoint my mother (or yours, or you, or most definitely Carol Brady) here is my review of the movie The Lovely Bones.
Susan Sarandon rocks. She rocked as Louise. She was a bangin' Banger sister. I worship at the altar of the virgin(ish) Janet Weiss - A Heroine (and slut).

And she brought Grandma Lynn to life in The Lovely Bones. She represented everything I - as a girl only slightly younger than the lead character in this movie in the early '70's when it took place - found glamorous, sophisticated, and wonderful. She wore furs and huge sunglasses. Her hair was ratted to the sky. She smoked cigarettes and drank whiskey, neat. She cussed and talked frankly about sex. And she turned out to be the glue that held her family together. I love her so much. Wait - you might be asking - who do you love? Susan Sarandon or Grandma Lynn? But that's acting, isn't it? Because they became one and the same.
Also, Marky Mark is still very cute.
Oh - and a lot of the imagery was very pretty.
And that's about all the nice things that I can come up with to say about the movie The Lovely Bones.
Ask me about the book upon which it was based and I will wax rhapsodic.
Now, I'm gonna go back and watch that clip from Rocky Horror again. And yes, I'll be commenting to the screen. But I won't throw rice at the laptop (again). I learned THAT lesson. Skip The Lovely Bones. Rent Thelma and Louise or The Banger Sisters instead. Better yet, buy The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Mom might not approve, but I for one always left with good things to say.

It's definitely not on my list of things to see...glad to know my instincts are right.
We watched it on our computer shhhh possibly illegal ....but we don't have TV or English movies here so...anyway I like it but when you are starved to here English I tend to like watching Rock of Love season whatever! Straight to hell I know my MIL reserved a spot.
First, let me add, that Susan Sarandon does ROCK! I also loved her as Annie in "Bull Durham".......because you know baseball isn't just a linear game...ha ha! Rocky Horror just brings back college memories!
I'm very sad about the Lovely Bones movie. I loved the book, it was good and compelling in a sad disturbing way. I couldn't put it down. I think I'm going to skip it though.
OH I forgot.....duh, old brain! I have a book review and a give a way on my blog today.........come on over!!
I enjoyed the book so much that I didn't think I should see the movie. Good to know I'm not missing anything.
Add Annie Savoy...Sarandon's character from Bull Durham to the list!
I wasn't really rushing into seeing it, but now I have no desire.
I do love Susan Sarandon and Rocky Horror Picture Show.My girlfriend owns it so once in awhile we have a sleepover and watch it while drinking lots of wine.
So one character who basically had a "smallish" part in the book actually is what made the movie outstanding. Geesh.
I loved Rocky Horror Picture Show! Saw it at the theater twice and several times on TV!
Good to know...I won't see it b/c that's one of my favorite books!
dammit. i wanted to see that and was hoping it was good. i'm not a huge fan of marky mark in these 'sensitive' roles. did you see the happening? pure crap.
Janet Weissssssssssssssssss!!!
I love that book too. Was wavering on seeing the movie b/c I was afraid it would ruin it for me. Now I know not to waste my very small movie budget. Thank you!
I loved the book but the movie did not appeal to me, so as others here have said, thanks for validating how I feel.
I have seen Rock Horror so many times in the theater that I cannot even give you an estimate.
We used to bring the bags of rice and whip it as hard as we could. Although if you think about it, why was a 15 year old boy watching a movie about sweet transvestites from transexual Transylvania? hahaha
LOL!! I do like a little Marky Mark in the evening (or morning, or afternoon...), but good to know I shouldn't waste the money until it gets to Redbox.
By the way, never ever ever go to see Rocky Horror Picture Show in the theater if your name is Janet. Ever.
Have an Extraordinary Day!
Well, that's a shame. I enjoyed the book.
And Susan does rock. I think I might go rent the Banger Sisters.
I loved Susan Sarandon in Thelma and Louise and she was great in The Lovely Bones. I actually liked the movie. *shrugs* I did read the book years ago, though, and I don't remember a lot of the details so I can't really say if the movie does it justice.
Not a movie I was really all that interested in seeing although I do love Susan, too. Maybe when it comes to Netflix but I'm not going to the theater.
I thought the movie was alright, but there were some pretty trippy parts where I thought maybe someone had spiked my theater popcorn with acid or something.
Our local paper had a bad review in it as well. I loved the book. Often when that is the case, I don't like the movie.
If I read a book that really, truly touches me in some way I will not watch the movie, if one is made. It always ruins it for me.
I've heard that not a lot of people liked it. My Mom read the book and said it was just okay. Since the movie is usually worse than the book, I can only imagine that it's not very good. It's not on my list!
I started reading the book and I just couldn't. I wish I could, but it makes me feel like I'm going to get and anxiety attack. I don't think I'll be able to see the movie either.
I liked the book enough to have no real desire to see the movie. But Susan Sarondon IS a great actress. It might be worth it for that alone.
Did that book not haunt you for days?
oh my...I just read sitting on the mood swing and did not realize I said the same thing she did. Weird. I should probably pay more attention to previous comments. And be happy that she and I think alike.
xo
I loved the book. The movies are never as good.
no desire to see it. read the book, but the trailer just didnt grab... LOVE love love susan..
stepmom... sigh.
Ahhh! I knew it! I knew this movie would suck. Bummer. However, I do like Marky Mark. Something about that guy...
I don't think I'm going to see it either, although I've always been a Susan Sarandon fan!
I just finished the book last night. The kids (student ones) are all about seeing the movie. I had no idea Susan S. was in it! Cool.
The book was great until the midpoint for me. As soon as the the murderer left town, I lost interest for some reason.
Here's my best impression of Marky Mark:
(pants dropped to knees, cabbage patching) "Come'on Come'on. Feel it feel it."
Her cleavage alone makes Rocky Horror worth it... Okay, Tim Curry's cleavage, too.
The movies are NEVER as good as the books...they just lose something! I am so glad I found your blog I have really been enjoying it and I will def. be coming back a lot more. Visiting from sits and again glad I did!
The book was amazing but the movie didnt intrigue me and your highly nice review is all the push I need not to see it.
Oh no! It sounded so good!
Oh, I love, Love, LOVE to wax rhapsodic! In fact, I'm thinking of waxing that way tomorrow. BUT, I SO can't believe Susan Sarandon is playing grandma roles now. Never read the book, never saw the flick...the title creeps me out a tad, ya know?
I've heard this from others - read the book, skip the movie. I think I'll take that advice.
