Sunrise, Sunset (or, When the Apple Outgrows the Tree)

I know I've done nothing but bitch about the cold weather and the snow and the winter and ohmygodblahblahblahblahblah - but I have to say there is one thing I will miss when it's gone for good: sunrises and sunsets behind the leafless trees. They really have been quite spectacular. I'll trade 'em for warmer weather in a heartbeat, though, don't get me wrong. Just sayin'.

This morning as I was taking Liv to school and we were watching a pretty fabulous sunrise, I mentioned something about how pretty the contrast of the stark leafless trees set off by the vibrant burning sun was. She said, "Oh! That reminds me!" and proceeded to tell me a story about school and Science class. The teacher was talking them through a compare and contrast between plant cells and animal cells. She wanted them to think like scientists. My Liv says to me, she says, "But I can't really think like a scientist. I think like a writer. My teacher thought I was taking notes - and I kind of was, because I was paying attention to what she was saying and stuff, but I wrote in my notebook: Book Idea."

She went on to share her idea with me, but I'm not going to share it with you because it was KILLER good and I hope she writes it up. I am seriously jealous of my twelve year old's book idea. There are probably a lot of things about that that are wrong.

There is nothing about that that is wrong. It's all good. My heart is smiling just thinking about your daughter.

(one time my daughter's teacher complimented her for being such a good listener. She wasn't listening; she was off in her own world daydreaming. :) )

Your post titles always make me guess what is to come. Now it all makes sense, and she is a tease, just like you!! I love that she writes too.

I love how that girl thinks and that entire 'apple not falling far from the tree' thing? A little bit true, right?

This makes me think of that movie "Funny Farm" with Chevy Chase...you know the one that the wife writes about Andy the squirrel. I don't know why.
Anyway, this is so cool!! : )

Dang that our kids are way more talented than we'll ever be (let me rephrase - than I'll ever be) :D

No. Not wrong. You've raised your girls to go beyond you. Somehow that's what happened with Darling and I reap the rewards of being Mom to such an amazing woman. Sit back and enjoy.

Sidebar; I've got a fascination with bare branches. I LOVE warm weather. LOVE bare branches against the sky. Love.

Well, I just wrote this on your last post, but Liv rocks! How cool is that? I, for one, can't wait to read her book.

My daughter dreams of being an author one day, too (but again, like me, can't finish a story!), and she actually asked me IF I WOULD BUY HER BOOK. Duh.

I love that you took the time to notice the sunrise (I usually sleep through them!)

So I guess that apple doesn't fall too far from the tree (leafless or otherwise). I can't wait until I am purchasing a collection of "killer" short stories courtesy of your daughter. Of course, this will be made even better when it is sitting next to your book on the Barnes & Noble shelf!

I'm a sucker for a good sunset/sunrise. I love when the sky is pink & orange. No matter how times I see them I cannot help but to be in awe of their greatness.

Sounds like talent runs in your family!
