Wash Me

We are staying on a small island just off Marco Island in south Florida. Goodland, where we're staying, is a little fishing village with a post office and 4 bar/restaurants. That's about it. To get to anything else we have to go through Marco.

Today we went shopping in Naples. Off Goodland, through Marco, to Naples.

Now Marco is quite an affluent area. When we went swimming at a pool there yesterday, we did not use a trash can. We used a rubbish bin. This cracked us up, for some reason, and we spent a good deal of the rest of the day saying "Oh, rubbish!" in our best fa-fa-fa voices and our most affected accents.

On our way back to the island after our shopping trip today, someone's lawn sprinkler hit us just as we were entering Marco. My niece, Shelby, asked from the back seat, "What was that?"

"Sprinklers, what did you think?" answered her mom.

"I thought maybe they didn't want to have to look at our dirty old car on Marco, so they were washing it for us."

Shelby is a funny little chickadee.

Shelby
is 10 years old and has just started her own blog to talk about her dog and her life.

My daughter Lea, who is 13, just started a blog too. It is chock full of teen angst, as you would expect.

Stop by and give them some love, if you've got the time. And if you know any other young bloggers who might be interested in following, I'm pretty sure they'd follow back.

(I am fully aware that it's positively shameless to use this forum for promoting two of my favorite girls, but shame is overrated. If you do visit them, read Shelby's older posts and scroll on through for Lea's first post... just sayin')

My husband says "rubbish", maybe it's an island thing or maybe my husband is just stuck-up.

How great is it that your daughters started blogs? I'll have to check them out.

Gotta go check out these tween bloggers...it's a good way to get them to write!
Tonight's the night we put the trash at the curb, I'm SO gonna tell my husband it's time for him to empty the rubbish bins! : )

Every time I read your blog, I giggle. I also feel like my heart expands with love just a little more each visit. It's a wonderful feeling.

Oh, and for the record, 'rubbish bin' is NOT stuck up! Imagine it being said in an Australian accent. It's what we say, and I'm pretty sure that our accent is about as far from sophisticated as it gets! 'Trash can' reminds me of Oscar the Grouch, for some reason. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I'm definitely going to check out those beautiful girls' blogs. They sound so sweet! (Although it's probably best if we both tell them not to check out mine. At least, until they're a little older.)

you have little baby blog writers? wow. My 17 year old technically has a blog; I think she's posted 2 times. She says she'll probably use it a lot more when she goes away for school. Hope so!!

I always leave such "it's all about me" comments. gonna work on that.

It sounds like you are having a fab time!! Wish I were there. Lurking in the background. :-)

I love that they're saying "rubbish" in a frou-frou Florida beach town. I thought only the English and Irish did that. Brilliant!

Cool. Two budding young bloggers. I'll visit their sites. BTW blogs were invented for shameless promotion of our little ones :D
