Random Randomness That's Random

Today, as you know, is 09/09/09. What a cool, orderly date. All nice and round and even. Not random at all. And yet...

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Last night we went to Liv's band orientation. There were lots of things to sign up for and everyone had to sign up for multiple things. Before the speakers were done speaking, parents were rushing the stage to get to the sign up sheets. It was an astoundingly rude display. The teacher just looked sort of helpless. I don't know what he'd do with kids who acted so rudely, but he clearly didn't know what to do with adults who showed him no respect. Many in front of their kids. And we wonder why so many kids feel like the rules don't apply to them...

I was a wiener this week! Blue Violet over at A Nut in a Nutshell ran a contest and yours truly won a coupon for $45 off $100 purchase at Old Navy. I got the coupon today and spent it tonight. Grass doesn't grow under my feet, baby. We got quite a nice little haul for the whole family, and I am most appreciative.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another cool thing happened, too. The Redhead Riter passed along a couple goodies to me:

This one is the bookworm. It came without rules. My favorite! Not a big rule follower! The lines are not my friend! This is not really contradictory to the above bit of randomness where I complained about people thinking they were above the rules. I don't break rules if to do so would be blatantly RUDE...

Ahem.

Check that out, all fancy and sparkly-like! Who adds sunshine to my day? Well YOU do, silly!

The other night I dreamed of pizza. This is not as unusual an occurrence as it perhaps should be. But this dream was special. I could actually taste and identify, like, every piece of pizza I'd ever eaten in my life. I wonder if this is the east coast version of having your life flash before your eyes? I remembered pizza from my childhood. Pizza from that little shop at the beach. Pizza from my grandpa's bar. Pizza from a restaurant I went to ONCE on a vacation when I was LITTLE. Pizza from every pizza shop in my small college town. To extend the old saying that pizza is like sex: even when it's bad, it's still pretty good - I guess this was the equivalent of a pizza lover's wet dream. A full-on pizza orgy. Hmmm. What shall we have for dinner tonight? Oh! I know!!!!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

My uterus will leave me in three days. My mom will arrive in five. Anyone wanna hazard a guess as to which future event is making me more nervous? 'Future events such as these will affect you in the future.' If you actually get that reference, I don't know if I'll cheer for you or weep for you. Probably a little bit of both. I'm multi-faceted like that. Plus, I'm pretty hormonal.

As my sweet baby Lea would say: Peace, Love, Randomness.

The more school functions I go to, the more I realize the most of the parents are idiots. OK, maybe not most parents, but A LOT.

My fave line in all this randomness: "I wonder if this is the east coast version of having your life flash before your eyes?" Hilarious!!!!

And as for your poor uterus, good luck with that! I will be thinking about you!

I hate anxiety. When/If my kids're suffering from nerves I go crazy (on their behalf.)
Who do I hafta KILL to make my girls comfortable again?!

If nervous was a living being I would end it. I'd kill it 'til it was dead. That's how much I hate it.
I'm sorry you're suffering with your nerves, and I truly empathize with the crazy shizz that can frazzle.

I enjoy random blog posts. Every time.
Lest you think you've reinvented the wheel with your cool coloring-outside-the-lines my Rebel Queen; random is the new orderly.
Sometimes it's nice NOT to have to buck the system.

09/09/09: also my daughter's birthday. And come to think of it, she is very orderly. Polar opposite of me.

Haha. At back to school night every little volunteer sheet was full. dang it. ;) The only one with NO one signed up was the 'library help' paper. I signed up on that one fer sure. Once a week for an hour. I don't know how I will manage the sacrifice.

You have someone coming to help after the operation!!? No fair. But you will need it. Trust me. Come to me for more insightful advice. I will be thinking of you. It will actually be one of the best days of your life when you look back. You will want to celebrate that day every year. Or maybe that's just me. :)

I admit upfront, with my recent uterine activity, I thought of you and yours.........totally weird I know.
I'd also be more anxious about my mom coming than my uterus being removed.
I'll be thinking of you..........quick recovery, good drugs, mom behaving, all those things!

At least it won't be on 9/11! My college room mate's aunt called up about a month after losing her uterus, or as she fondly called it "my box". She asked if she could come visit us and go to some frat parties since she had her "box out"! Her name was Wanda and we called her Wicked Wanda. You can guess the rest.

Good luck!

It makes me sad to think of the uterus leaving though...
I agree with Gibby, the more school things I go to the more I realize parents are freakin' idiots and no wonder their kids are brats!
I did not get that reference, but I'm assuming it's from a movie or something?

PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, baby! And no, I didn't have to google it. How pitiful am I?
Good luck w/ your uterus. My sister said that saying adios to hers was the best thing she's ever done. Good luck w/ your mom. Can't help you with that one.
Happy recovery. Hope you get to lay around and me taken care of, it a good, non-guilt inducing kind of way.

Hi, I'm stopping by from SITS! I just wanted to share some comment love.

My 2 youngest girls have been in the band since 5th grade. It has been awesome. My daughter who is a senior this year is the drum major in their marching band (for the 3rd year) and my sophomore plays the sax. They are also in the symphonic and jazz bands. As you can tell, we really love band around here!

I truly hope your surgery goes well. Have you heard of Hyster Sisters? They have a really great website that has a ton of great info, message boards, etc. Here is the link in case you haven't seen it:

Well, I will definitely be back to check on you. Good luck to you.

Many Blessings,

Oooh, I'd love to have a Pizza orgy dream. I'll take that over Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp any day!

Congrats on your winnings! Good luck with the surgery and more importantly with your mom coming to visit. I'm always so happy when my folks come to visit and even happier when they leave so I understand.

I'm sitting here typing this and I can't stop dreaming about pepperoni and extra cheese. Mmmmm, thanks a lot! :-)

Classroom management is a skill. But I'm also not much of a rule-follower. So in my classroom, it's do as I say, not as I do. Good luck in the OR. Will you be blogging from recovery?

I stopped by our local library tonight, which has a connecting parking lot with the middle school. And I thought of all those events we had to attend at school. And now that my kids have graduated from high school, I have to say I don't miss those events a bit.

How did you know I like to have pizza while having sex? Oh wait, that's not what you said.

I can't believe the behavior or some parents these days. I'm always in shock.

I really hope your surgery goes well!

I'm glad you found some Old Navy goodies to use the coupon on! After the fact, I was thinkin...hey, I didn't even get one myself! I'm jealous.

Your mom's visit is a great way of removing some of the nervousness for your surgery (which is going to go off without a hitch).

I agree about rude adults. I've seen that very thing happen myself. It astounds me how people act.
